The Portfolio of Sarah Bergs

In the fall of 2019, I took an advanced Modeling & Texturing course.
One of our projects over the course of about three weeks was to fully model a character. We were given head and body references to match proportions, then had to decide how to clothe the character ourselves. I decided to use a blacksmith image for my character, which meant I had to do a fair amount of small details like buttons, chains, and tools especially on the apron, as well as try to make it look appropriate when it came to weight.
We did not have to UV or Texture this project.

As part of Modeling & Texturing II, we had to do a final project: taking reference art all the way from concept to modeled, textured, posed, lit, and rendered.
I went with a small little "leaf dragon" image, which left me with the issue of trying to figure out how to get the leaves to match up with the reference image.
I ended up creating a few variations of leaves to copy and place over the dragon in multiple places, giving me a way to achieve the layered effect that the reference had.
Instead of moving and adjusting everything vertices by vertices, I used what I had learned from Rigging I to give the dragon bones, then painted weights so that I could more easily adjust and pose the model, even putting weights on the leaves so they would follow along where the body or limbs went.
For texturing I used Photoshop, bringing in textures to get the feeling of the scales, and used custom brushes to try and get the right patterns of colors across the dragon's body.
Using what I'd learned in Lighting & Composition I, I tried to light the model appropriately and in an interesting way, preventing areas from being too bright or shadows too dark.
